Food Pantry
Working to help ease hunger in the Manchester community.
The CRC Food Pantry (CRCFP) is a program of the Community Resource Center. It exists to serve residents of the Manchester area school district by extending a helping hand to provide food and other support for those facing circumstances beyond their control.
The CRC Food Pantry’s service area encompasses the Village of Manchester and four surrounding townships (Sharon, Manchester, Freedom and Bridgewater). Last year, 866 people in households were served.
The Pantry is located at 410 City Road in the Manchester Community Schools Administration Building, in the Northeast corner of the building. Street parking is available right outside the entrance on Wolverine Street.
The CRCFP is located in a bright and spacious ‘retired’ classroom and is set up with aisles of shelves, much like a grocery market. It is our intention to provide a dignified atmosphere where clients can choose the items they need. The CRCFP is open from 9 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday, but it is necessary to call 734-428-7722 first to ensure someone is there to help you. Clients may access the Pantry two times per month. Should there be a greater need, contact the CRC Director to make arrangements.
We at the CRC realize our clients may have other needs with which we can help. Our Pantry has helped to not only open cupboard doors but doors to other services to help get people back on their feet.
The CRC Food Pantry has a community face – people show how much they care about their neighbors! Our volunteers and donors are the most important part of our program:
- A local farmer donates a truckload of homegrown produce.
- Area churches raise money with soup suppers and contribute food at Sunday services.
- Girl Scout troops clean floors and shelves and help to sort donations.
- Postal employees devote a day to picking up donated food on their delivery routes.
- Local merchants hold food drives and Curves for Women exchanges membership fees for pounds of food.
- Young and old take out their walking shoes to participate in Crop Walk for Hunger to raise funds which helps stock meat and perishables in the Pantry throughout the year.
- The CRCFP partners with Food Gatherers, a food bank and food rescue organization in Washtenaw County. Food Gatherers brings regular shipments of surplus and donated food to the CRCFP for distribution.
