Goodbyes and Hellos

April 11, 2023 by Carol Wotring

CRC said goodbye to Executive Director, Laura Seyfried, last month.  Laura spent the last 12 years at CRC building community partnerships and pursuing funding resources that have secured CRC’s future for the next several years.   Laura has left a legacy at CRC, and we thank her for her tremendous work!

Lesley Dearhammer is also changing her role at CRC.  She is transitioning out of her role as Administrative Assistant but plans to stay involved as a volunteer.  Lesley is a powerful advocate and has established strong relationships with CRC customers. She is knowledgeable of local resources and passionate about the work CRC does.  We are grateful that she will continue as a volunteer at CRC, when she is in Manchester.

What Laura and Lesley have built over the last 12 years is working well!  Carol Wotring, the new Executive Director at CRC does not plan to make any major changes with current programming.  Melissa Andersen-Licavoli has been hired as the new full-time Administrative and Volunteer Coordinator.  CRC will continue to offer an open choice food pantry, navigator assistance with MIBridges benefit applications and renewals, referral to partner resources and direct assistance for utility/rental needs to keep you in your home.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Returns to the CRC

January 27, 2023 by Carol Wotring

VITA-logo23

The Community Resource Center (CRC) in Manchester is once again offering free Scan and Go income tax preparation through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program in partnership with the United Ways of Washtenaw County and South Central Michigan. IRS trained volunteers from both the CRC and United Way agencies will provide intake, tax preparation, and review for VITA participants with household income less than $60,000 in 2022 (additional restrictions may apply in some situations). Even if your income status does not require filing a federal tax return, there may be state credits for home heating or property tax that are available to you. VITA can help with that. More details about the VITA program and additional tax resources can be found at:  https://www.uwwashtenaw.org/free-tax-preparation

Scan and Go intake appointments will be scheduled through the CRC office during February and March 2023. Please call our office at 734-428-7722 to confirm your eligibility and to reserve your time slot.

Once you have scheduled your appointment, you may pick up your intake packet at the CRC office including both federal and state intake forms, a list of items to bring with you, and a letter from United Way explaining the VITA Scan and Go process. You may also request to have the packet mailed to you if your appointment is set for at least two weeks out.

NEW this tax season– residents of Woodhill Apartments will have the opportunity to schedule appointments on Wednesdays in February and March with our lead volunteer to complete the Scan and Go intake without having to leave your apartment complex. Please call the CRC office at 734-428-7722 to reserve your time slot at Woodhill Apartments.

We look forward to hearing from you!
